API terms of use

Plain-English terms for the EDTEF Open Data API. By getting a key you agree to them.

The data: The school directory is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, share and adapt it for any purpose, including commercially.
Credit: Wherever you show or redistribute the data, credit “EDTEF school directory (edtef.org)”, with a link to edtef.org where possible.
Your key: Keys are personal to you or your organisation. Keep them secret, don't put them in public code, and don't share them. We may turn off a key that is shared or misused.
Fair use: Stay within your plan's limits, cache where you can, and don't try to get around rate limits by using several keys.
Accuracy: We check every school before listing it, but details can change. The data is provided as it is, without guarantees. Tell us about errors and we'll fix them.
Changes: We may change these terms or the API. Breaking API changes only come in a new version, and we keep old versions for at least 12 months. Key holders are emailed before changes.
Your information: We keep the email, name, organisation and purpose you give us, and logs of requests made with your key, to run the API and contact you about it. We don't sell or share them.
